The 19th Amendment: Women’s Right to Vote

What it means: The government cannot deny someone the right to vote because of their sex. Congress can pass laws to enforce that protection.

Why it matters: Women fought for generations to have a say in decisions affecting their lives. This amendment was a major victory, but many women, especially women of color, still faced barriers to voting afterward.

Having a voice in our government matters, and protecting access to the ballot is something we all have a stake in.
