Know Your Constitution: Amendment of the Week

Each week, we will highlight one constitutional amendment and explain what it means in clear, everyday language.

This week, we are looking at Section 3 of Amendment 14.

What it means: Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment says that a person who has taken an oath to support the Constitution may be barred from holding certain public offices if they later engage in insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or give aid or comfort to its enemies. It also allows Congress to remove that restriction by a two-thirds vote. ⚖️📜
