Each week, we will highlight one constitutional amendment and explain what it means in clear, everyday language.

This week, we are looking at Amendment 8.

What it means:

The Eighth Amendment protects people from excessive bail, excessive fines, and cruel or unusual punishment. It helps ensure that punishments are fair and not extreme. ⚖️🛡️

Why it matters:

This amendment helps protect human dignity and limits the government’s power when it comes to punishment and treatment within the justice system. 🏛️💙

Learning about the Constitution helps all of us better understand our rights and the role we each play in a healthy democracy. 📜💙

What do you think “fair punishment” should look like in today’s world? 💭
